Secaucus girls basketball coach John Sterling won his 400th career game last night, becoming the latest Hudson County coach to reach a significant milestone.
Here are some other notable coaching milestones that Hudson County high school sports coaches have achieved this school year:
?
Prep's Hansen wins 200th
In his 25th season as the St. Peter's Prep football coach, Rich Hansen earned his 200th career victory on Sept. 29 with a 56-0 rout of Boston College High School (Mass.). Hansen has compiled a career record of 205-55-1, while guiding the Downtown Jersey City school to three state championships -- the most recent coming in 2005. Hansen became Prep's all-time wins leader in 2007, when he surpassed legendary coach Bill Cochrane (154 wins).
Longo reaches 400 victories
Few coaches in Hudson County can boast the credentials and experience of Bayonne volleyball coach Pat Longo. Last year, she guided the Bayonne boys team to its first state sectional title in school history and was named the state's Coach of the Year. This fall, she added another accolade to her resume, winning her 400th career match as the school's girls coach.
Voorhees joins century club
Secaucus football coach Charlie Voorhees nabbed his 100th career victory this season, when his Patriots topped Park Ridge, 21-6, in the 2012 season opener. Now in his second year as the school's athletic director, Voorhees has served as football coach for 14 seasons and led the Patriots to a 103-42 during that stretch.
