LGBT Investors Express Confidence About Retirement Goals ...

SAN FRANCISCO, May 30, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) ?
Investors are faced with complex challenges when it comes to retirement,
including: how to save enough to feel comfortable, where to invest
retirement savings, understanding and creating retirement income
options, and when and where to retire. LGBT investors (lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender) face these same challenges as well as several
unique ones, including those stemming from a lack of federal marriage
and inheritance rights.

Yet in a recent nationwide Wells Fargo retirement survey, LGBT
non-retirees reported a higher level of confidence in their retirement
savings, compared to the general population. In the survey, 61% of LGBT
non-retirees felt confident they would have enough saved by the time
they retire to live the lifestyle they want throughout their retirement,
significantly higher than 53% cited by the general population. Despite
this confidence, over a third (36%) of LGBT non-retirees expect they
will need to work during retirement in order to afford their lifestyle
(only slightly lower than the 41% of the general population).

The Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor (ADPA) program was created,
through a partnership with the College for Financial Planning, to
educate advisors about the unique needs and financial considerations of
domestic partners. Financial advisors who earn this designation are
well-equipped to work with domestic partners and lesbian, gay, bisexual,
and transgender (LGBT) clients to develop a thoughtful approach to
meeting their financial goals. Wells Fargo was the first in the industry
to create this program and today has more than 100 ADPA-certified
financial advisors nationwide.

Approximately one in ten LGBT respondents have heard of ADPAs ?
financial advisors with training in financial and retirement planning
specifically for LGBT domestic partners. Upon hearing a description of
ADPA advisor training and designation, most gay men (60%) and lesbians
(72%) say these credentials are important to them when working with a
financial advisor.

?Each investor has different priorities, needs, and life goals, and
domestic partners and same-sex couples often have added concerns and
questions about their unique financial situation,? said Kyle Young,
Financial Advisor and Vice-President, Investment Officer for Wells Fargo
Advisors. ?It?s especially important for LGBT investors to find
financial advisors who are acutely aware of the challenges, laws, and
regulations that impact their investment planning needs. This additional
knowledge affords clients encouragement in knowing that their needs will
be heard, understood, and thoughtfully explored.?

The median amount LGBT non-retirees have saved for retirement is only
17% of what they believe they actually need. LGBT non-retirees believe
they will need to save at least $900,000 in order to retire, and have
saved on average about $150,000. And despite this need to save more for
retirement, three out of five (62%) of non-retired LGBT?s surveyed have
not increased their retirement savings allocation in the past year.

More than half (54%) of all LGBT respondents cite being recognized as
equal citizens by society and the law as the most important reason for
legalizing gay marriage. One in five (19%) say that having legal rights
and medical decision-making on behalf of one?s partner is most
important. Only 7% said legalizing gay marriage was not important to
them.

LGBT respondents overwhelmingly reported they would find value in
information and advice on investing and preparing for retirement.
Additionally, only about a quarter of the LGBT respondents currently had
a detailed written plan for their finances in retirement.

About the Survey

On behalf of Wells Fargo Retirement, Richard Day Research conducted an
online survey between December 2nd and December 18, 2011 among adults
ages 25-75 who identified themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or
transgender (LGBT, n=505). Comparisons were made to a similar national
online sample of n=1,190.

Salmonella outbreak tied to chicks; 93 ill

ATLANTA (AP) ? A new salmonella outbreak that sickened nearly 100 people has been traced to mail-order chicks from Ohio.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that 93 cases have been reported in 23 states since March. Eighteen people were hospitalized and one death is being investigated to see if it was caused by the infection.

Investigators interviewed dozens of the patients and most said they had touched chicks or ducklings before they got sick. The birds were traced to a mail-order hatchery in Ohio. Health officials advise washing your hands after handling live poultry.

This outbreak is different from one reported Wednesday in a medical journal. That one involved more than 300 cases of a different salmonella strain over eight years, and was traced to a different hatchery.

cardio | Tucson Kettlebell

I get the question all the time. I have come off at times as the Anti-Cardio guy or I should say aerobics. For people not in the fitness industry I will take a couple sentences to explain some differences in cardiovascular training. First, there is the aerobic cardiovascular training. You would be correct in thinking of dancing aerobics classes. Aerobics have been around even before Jane Fonda made it famous years ago. ?Without going into the biochemistry of it all, Aerobics means your body is utilizing lots of oxygen in your activity level. When working aerobically your body does use fat as a main source of fuel which does make aerobics a favorable option for burning fat. You can usually do aerobic activity for extended periods of time without suffering from fatigue. FYI you are very aerobic when you are sleeping as well, it doesn?t mean that you can burn tons of fat by just sleeping all day. Unfortunately once people realized aerobics burned fat it started a huge explosion in aerobics based classes and training, and unfortunately when done in excess it seems that a less favorable body fat percentage is achieved. Just ask the women who join the gym and take aerobic classes 5 + times per week and don?t ever see the results they want! Does this mean that aerobics is useless? Well I will come back to that. The next part of cardiovascular training is called Anaerobic training. ?So unlike the marathon runner that is very aerobic and can run for hours without stopping, an anaerobic state of conditioning involves high intensity bouts of training followed by periods of rest. The best way would be thinking of a sprinter.

? ? ?Lately in the fitness industry the biggest buzz is about focusing on high intensity interval training (HIIT). It is just a way of training the anaerobic system. To tell you the truth I have been a big fan of this training for the past few years and the research that has come out regarding HIIT show that it has benefits in the fat loss game. Much of it has to do with the hormone response that it causes in the body that promotes fat loss and muscle gains for hours post workout. The biggest benefit is that these workouts are usually done in under 20 minutes. ? This type of training is why kettlebells have really made a huge impact because they lend themselves nicely to this type of training without all the impact of running or sprinting.

? ? ? So now that I have explained what most of you know, why the hell am I writing this, well the biggest reason is to find a balance. I have trained numerous aerobics instructors that have taught an upward of 15-20 aerobic classes per week and they have a less than favorable body fat percentage. I was recently at a fitness expo that I was presenting to a room of aerobics instructors. I asked how many felt that they had extra body fat and felt soft? Well over half the room raised their hand. The biggest reason of this discrepancy may not be the excessive aerobic training but maybe to do with the lack of a strength focus and undernourishment, though I think this could be a hefty discussion as well. ?There has been a huge shift in the fitness industry that has shunned aerobics completely calling it out dated and the new camp calling for all HIIT training alone as the only and superior method of training. Kettlebells, Sleds, Ropes, and numerous other tools have been utilized to feed into this craze. Heck I have a gym that is all of the above. ?It?s funny how these things happen. A huge ?aerobics only? culture that has proven that it can?t be the only method of training leads towards a huge Anaerobic training culture just to find out that both have a place in training. Granted we don?t need an NFL Football player running 5 miles per day as that would be detrimental to his performance, but building a solid aerobic ?base is extremely beneficial to athletes.

Here are my problems with HIIT only training in my opinion. It starts with the name. HIGH INTESITY. Even though it is done in short bursts and only for 20 minutes, it leads itself to overuse injuries and really ramping up the nervous system. I am a big believer in Kettlebells hence the name of this blog and my gym, but after someone just gets done training a heavy strength workout with a finisher what should they do tomorrow? Sure rest is an option but if they are training 3x week with strength and anaerobic conditioning what about the other days? Do they need to do high intensity explosive sprints to keep their body moving and to experience health benefits? I think in many cases this high, high, high can really lead to overuse and overtraining by really jacking up the nervous system. This is where my thoughts are really changing towards. Building an aerobic base can definitely be achieved by using aerobics as accessory work and days between strength training. The fear of losing strength by doing aerobics is very misplaced. Sure, If I am training a world class powerlifter I don?t want him doing 2hours of cardio a day, but for the regular person looking to get stronger and leaner this Aerobic conditioning 2-3 days per week for 30 minutes should not hurt anything and can only add to the benefits of training. Training aerobics can be achieved numerous ways: Walking at a fast pace, cycling, jump rope, light circuit training with lower intensity, ellipticals, versa-climbers, light kettlebell swings in a timed circuit , etc??. My favorite is walking at a fast pace for at least 30minutes to an hour. Again, if someone is only walking for exercise it is better than doing nothing but having a more well rounded program would be well advised to see benefit.

In the middle of me writing this blog I decided to post the question to lots of other trainers and fitness people that I know? The funniest thing is those that are on top of things in the industry all pretty much agreed in the need for having aerobics as a part of a program. IF you want to see all the comments add me as a friend on facebook..

? ? ?I just wanted to put it out there, that just leaning to one side only of training is never the best solution and time after time we tend to fall into a state of ignorance as an industry or sects of an industry. ?So just as I would tell a client to add strength and anaerobic training to their training if they are only doing aerobics, I will tell all of you that are only doing HIIT and Strength to start adding some lighter intensity aerobics back into your program..

If you are interested in looking in to some other reads that were presented to me while I was writing this blog have at it. Not that I agree with all of it, I can definitely say that all lead to understanding there needs to be a balance..

California Staffs Up to Retire Legacy Financial Systems

SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? An ERP overhaul for one of the world's largest economies is a monumental undertaking, by anyone's definition. California currently uses roughly 2,500 legacy financial management systems in its 124 departments. But that's about to change.

State officials told attendees at the annual GTC West Conference Tuesday, May 29, in Sacramento that they're confident that they will meet an aggressive implementation schedule for a new, unified financial management system. Full implementation is expected at the end of five years.

Fi$Cal, called "the Next Generation Financial Information System for California", aims to streamline disparate accounting, budgeting and procurement systems that now operate throughout state organizations. Officials believe Fi$cal will be a more unified system that?s able to provide a simplified view into state financial operations. The new system will introduce financial interoperability between departments, enable more sophisticated analysis and make it easier to share financial data with the public.
?

Phasing Out Disparate Programs

State officials charged with implementing this systemwide change describe a status quo that's ripe for improvement. For example, the state Legislature often requests specific financial information aggregated across the state. The Department of Finance then surveys individual state departments so it can gather needed data from the appropriate sources. Finance compiles all the information, in multiple formats and programs, and prepares it as one uniform report for legislative review.
Such a process, with its inherent inefficiencies, can span days or even weeks. One integrated system ? managing all financial data statewide ? could produce the same data in a single report in a matter of hours.

Project Executive Barbara Taylor explained that a new financial system also will provide many procurement opportunities to the state. Under the current infrastructure, which is highly manual and lacking uniform standards, officials have no way to track purchasing at a statewide level.

"Instead of buying single units, let's buy a pallet and share it," Taylor said. "We can then negotiate for a much better price."

Legislators are paying close attention to cost savings opportunities the new system will provide. Savings are anticipated from shelving legacy systems the new infrastructure renders obsolete, and others deemed unnecessary by evaluations Fi$Cal is engaged in with the approximately 13,000 end-users of the new system.

Revised Cost Estimates

A transformation of this magnitude usually brings a price tag to match. Initial estimates offered by Fi$Cal were $1.6 billion, a tough sell in the state's current fiscal environment. Leaders credit several criteria for bringing the price down by more than half to where it stands today: $617 million.

Advances in ERP technology over the past few years make it simpler to integrate the kinds of customizations California officials seek for their financial systems.

A unique two-stage procurement process played a major role as well. Over a period of nine months, selected bidders were onsite at state offices, participating in a detailed exchange with Fi$Cal officials, learning specific information about the state's needs. This process removed many of the contingencies normally accounted for in RFP responses, allowing for a more detailed, accurate estimate of actual project costs. Officials say this kind of knowledge-sharing is unprecedented, but critical to Fi$Cal, which they call the state's largest IT project.

The California state Legislature's mandatory 90-day review period of the proposed contract award to system integrator Accenture ends May 30. Contract signatures are expected shortly thereafter. Accenture brings experience with several large scale statewide ERP implementations, including recent projects in Kansas and Ohio.

For California, the first of five implementation phases is targeted for completion in April 2013. Likened to a pilot program, the initial phase will roll out in 10 departments, which represent roughly 10 percent of Fi$Cal's end-users. Subsequent phases will take advantage of best practices gleaned through this initial deployment.

The system has had its share of issues. An analysis from the Legislative Analyst's Office backed the financial system modernization despite its high cost. Since the project was conceived several years ago, concerns also have been raised about whether the state's many departments could be effectively brought into an enterprise system. A report from the state auditor earlier this year also disclosed that several of Fi$Cal?s top managers had left to pursue other jobs.
?

Now Hiring

In anticipation of legislative approval and budget appropriations for their first phase, Fi$Cal is staffing up, seeking qualified candidates to fill many positions, including technologists, project analysts, finance professionals, and change management specialists.

Fi$Cal Project Director Tamara Armstrong told Government Technology that the modernization comes at an opportune time, given the economic woes that continue to challenge state leaders. "We're just excited to see the state turn the corner in really bringing the financial management infrastructure to the stability and transparency that the state needs at this time."

MIAMI (CBS4) ? Those looking to zap away fatty, dimply skin are flocking to a permanent cellulite treatment called Cellulaze, and it?s becoming a ?cellu-craze.? Most women know the drawbacks of serious cellulite on the buttocks and thighs. It inhibits what and how you wear your clothes and in typically steaming hot South Florida with plenty of beach time that can be a major problem. It?s been a serious issue for Joanna Castillo, 38, pretty much her entire life. She bared all for Cynthia Demos and the CBS4 cameras in hopes of helping others with the same problem. ?I buy all these Spanx and other garments and I wear them all the time,? said Castillo. She said once she found out about Cellulaze she knew couldn?t refuse the innovative treatment. ?I can?t see myself without it. I think I?m going to run to the beach and put a bathing suit on,? Castillo said. Before she hits the beach, Dr. Jason Pozner at Sanctuary Medical Center in Boca Raton starts the process with pictures and a lot of pen markings. The bulges get marked in green, anything dimpled gets marked in red and a grid and drawn on Castillo in blue. ?The band pulling the dimple in is literally cut and when you cut it the skin just pops up and you can actually hear it pop,? Dr. Pozner said. Once under anesthesia the surgery can begin. The laser used during the surgery is pulled in and out and looks much like a liposuction surgery to the untrained eye. Each grid takes two minutes. With 80 grids that?s a 2 1/2 hour procedure for Castillo. Before and after results are astonishing even to doctors. What?s so amazing is that the device, although it hasn?t been around long enough to know for sure, is thought to fix the cellulite problem on a permanent basis. For Casillo this is just the beginning. CBS4 will meet up with her in 2 to 3 month to see the final results.

How To Get The Right Auto Insurance For Your Business | Honest ...

Car insurance is something that we associate with private citizens. In fact, it is almost unheard of for our places of work to secure car insurance for us. It is something that most of us have to do on our own. However, if you are in a business that involves driving from place to place, or transporting something, then car insurance becomes a business matter. If you?re in this situation, have you ever wondered how to get the right auto insurance for your business? Do you know how to do it? We can help you with a few tips.

For small businesses especially, commercial car insurance is one of the main expenses that have to be considered. Many have a false notion that affordable commercial insurance can be hard to find; however, a keen talent for research has proven that business owners can often find competitive commercial insurance rates just by performing quick online comparisons. These days, a lot, if not all insurance companies offer coverage for company cars, so it is not unusual to find special deals for them.

Those running businesses and wanting commercial car insurance should start off by knowing the insurance requirements in the state where the business is located. Some states actually do not require auto coverage at all. However, even in cases like this, car insurance is still advised because getting into a car accident can be devastating, financially, to a business that may not have enough money. It may also not be enough to have a personal insurance plan to cover the business car driver. More often than not, in the event of an accident, the opposite party may sue not only the driver, but the business as well. Another thing to be aware of is insurance companies usually do not cover personal plans if they find out that the car was used for business purposes at the time of the accident. All these contribute to why commercial car insurance is a must!

Businesses that have several vehicles, generally more than two, should opt for a car fleet policy instead. Instead of dealing with individual insurance coverage for each car the company has, the business can get a general policy for all the cars, and save time, effort, and of course, money! In a car fleet policy, specific liability limits are applied to every vehicle, meaning changing the limit to one car means changing it for all. Also, if an employee of the company is registered with the same insurance provider as the fleet, then they can drive any vehicles in the fleet and still be covered!

Obtaining the correct car business insurance can really be a great thing for any business out there. It provides businesses with the right amount of security and protection. In case of an accident, or if a lawsuit does happen, then these businesses could save lots of money, as well as hassle. If you are running a business, look into car fleet insurance plans today.

Computer Programming for All: A New Standard of Literacy

#Computer #Programming for All: A New Standard of Literacy: Everyone ought to be able to read and write; few people within the global mainstream would argue with that statement. But should everyone be able to program computers? The question is becoming critically important as digital technology plays an ever more central role in daily life. The movement to make code literacy a basic tenet of education is gaining momentum, and its success or failure will have a huge impact on our society.

The Importance Of Physical Therapy | Online Business Article ...

?

Physical therapy is a type of healthcare specialty that deals with assessing and treating mobility issues. A licensed physical therapist provides the treatments. When patients have an injury or illness, physical therapists assist them in managing their pain, improving their movements and reintegrating them into the community. They use a range of exercises to improve a patient?s range of motion, posture, muscle performance and respiratory system. In addition, they also work to help patients achieve better balance and coordination.

Physical therapists typically work in clinics or hospitals; however, they can also work in nursing homes or private offices. A small percentage of physical therapists are self-employed, so they manage their own practice. The job requires people to stay on their feet for most of the day; therefore, they must be physically active while on the job.

In order to treat patients, physical therapists use the disablement model. This model involves the use of pathophysiology. It is used to treat impairments, functional limitations and disabilities. When using the disablement model, physical therapists can help restore limb function, relieve pain, improve mobility and prevent permanent disabilities. They encourage patients to take steps to keep up their overall health and fitness. Patients who see a physical therapist often include accident victims and those who have a disabling condition. Some of the most common disabling conditions include arthritis, lower back pain, cerebral palsy and heart disease.

Once they have examined their patients, physical therapists create treatment plans. These plans describe the strategy; they form a purpose and have an anticipated outcome. On occasion, a physical therapist assistant is the one who implements the treatment plan. The assistant works directly under the supervision of the physical therapist.

Most physical therapy treatment plans involve some form of exercise. If a patient is immobilized and lacks flexibility, then exercise is used to improve his or her levels of strength and endurance. Physical therapists urge patients to use their muscles to improve their flexibility. Once they have achieved a wider range of motion, patients move on to advanced exercises. These advanced exercises improve balance, strength and coordination. Since patients reach a higher endurance level, they can function better at home and in the workplace.

Besides exercise, treatments may also involve the use of electrical stimulation. If a patient is in a wheelchair, the physical therapist may use electrical stimulation on his or her leg muscles. Some other treatment methods include the use of hot packs or cold compresses. An ultrasound can even be used to reduce swelling and relieve pain symptoms. Traction and deep-tissue massages are another way to ease pain.

In addition to implementing treatment plans, therapists teach patients how to use helpful devices. For instance, they may show patients how to use crutches the proper way. It is also common for them to teach patients how to use prosthetics and wheelchairs. They even demonstrate how the exercises can be performed at home to make for a speedier recovery. Throughout the treatment plan, a physical therapist documents the patient?s progress. Whenever necessary, the therapist conducts periodic tests and modifies the treatment plan. This is the best way to identify and focus on areas that need more attention.

Physical therapists usually consult with other medical professionals when working with patients. For instance, they may consult with physicians, occupational therapists and audiologists. A physical therapist is allowed to specialize within a certain area of the field. Some choose to work in either pediatrics or geriatrics. If someone is a fan of sports, he or she can choose to specialize in sports medicine. Other areas within the field are orthopedics, oncology and neurology.

Bats: On the Ground Floor With Team Israel

The special assistant to the San Diego Padres? general manager fell asleep watching a game on his iPad last weekend. ?Extra innings,? Brad Ausmus, the special assistant, said, but he actually had a better excuse. He was watching the game in Israel.

Ausmus, who played 18 major league seasons as a catcher for four teams, is the manager for Israel?s inaugural entry in the World Baseball Classic. He spent last week touring Israel and scouting prospects and youth leagues, and on Thursday presented a jersey to President Shimon Peres.

?It?s a great life experience for him,? Padres Manager Bud Black said. ?There?s no doubt Brad wants to stay in the game. Some players would rather go into broadcasting; some players would rather go into the front office or amateur scouting. My instinct tells me Brad wants to get in uniform as either a bench coach or manager at some point.?

For Ausmus, 43, managing Team Israel is a start. Raised in Connecticut by a Jewish mother and a Protestant father, Ausmus did not go to church or synagogue as a boy but his family displayed a Christmas tree and a menorah. He said he felt most connected to his heritage through playing in the majors.

?There?s so much Jewish-American generational love of baseball that I saw,? Ausmus said. ?Boys or even grown men would come up and tell me I was their favorite player.?

These days, Milwaukee?s Ryan Braun, Texas? Ian Kinsler and Boston?s Kevin Youkilis are Jewish major league stars. Other Jewish major leaguers include Arizona?s Craig Breslow, the Mets? Ike Davis and Texas? Scott Feldman. Israel?s team will include native Israelis, but Ausmus said he also hoped to attract as many major leaguers as possible.

Israel grants citizenship to anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent, so all of those players would be eligible to play for Israel in the Classic. Ausmus said he had a comprehensive list of Jewish players in professional baseball and had reached out to them directly or through their agents.

A problem could be timing. Israel will play in a qualifying round with France, South Africa and Spain in Florida, but Ausmus said he did not know if it would take place in September or November. That makes a big difference because only minor leaguers could participate in September. The actual tournament takes place during spring training next year.

Braun and Youkilis played for the United States in the last Classic, in 2009. Davis said he would be more interested in playing for the United States, although he did not dismiss the idea of Israel?s team.

?I?ve played for a lot of U.S.A. teams already, and my goal would be to play for the highest U.S.A. team,? Davis said.

Ausmus knows at least two players who will be on his roster: the recently retired outfielders Shawn Green and Gabe Kapler have agreed to serve as player-coaches, and the former pitcher Scott Schoeneweis has shown interest in playing or coaching. Andrew Lorraine, another former major league pitcher, is the team?s pitching coach.

Baseball is a niche sport in Israel, Ausmus said, but with a good showing in the Classic, he said he hoped it could grow. For now, he said, about 1,000 people play baseball in Israel, where most fields would not be adequate for American high school teams.

?We?re not starting from scratch because they had a professional league here in 2007,? Ausmus said. ?But I think with the W.B.C. coming up, the people involved with Israeli baseball saw an opportunity, if Team Israel does well, to not only promote their country, but to also promote baseball. This is hopefully helping that. You have to start somewhere.?

UPDATE 3-Bud weakens to storm off Mexico's Pacific coast

Sat May 26, 2012 1:26am BST

* Mexico's largest Pacific port closed

* Bud brings rains, overcast skies on coast

* No major oil installations in storm's path (Changes headline, lead, updates location)

By David Alire Garcia

MANZANILLO, Mexico, May 25 (Reuters) - Hurricane Bud weakened to a tropical storm as it churned closer to Mexico's coast on Friday, but it brought heavy rains and strong winds that downed trees and closed schools and a major Pacific shipping port.

The first hurricane of the 2012 season, Bud was downgraded to a tropical storm with winds of up to 70 miles per hour (115 km per hour) on Friday afternoon. The center of the storm is expected to hit the coast between the port city of Manzanillo and the tourist town of Puerto Vallarta overnight on Friday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Downpours and wind gusts whipped through Manzanillo, knocking over trees and sending at least three families into emergency shelters.

Local officials said the municipality of Manzanillo had space for 15,000 people if more evacuations were needed.

"I am worried, but not scared. There is a lot of work to be done," Mayor Rosario Yeme said in Manzanillo, where she was coordinating with emergency services before the storm's landfall.

Authorities shut schools in Manzanillo and several other towns on the Pacific coast.

Last October, Hurricane Jova hit in almost the same area, causing at least four deaths and destroying infrastructure and houses in towns near the port.

Mexico has no significant oil installations on the Pacific coast.

"I am nervous," said 31-year-old Alma Rodriguez, who works at a clothing shop geared toward tourists in Manzanillo's commercial center. "But this is not as bad as the last storm. Everything is pretty calm," she said.

PORT CLOSED

Manzanillo port, which ships cars, cattle, metals and tequila to Asian and U.S. markets, was closed on Friday morning. The terminal handles about 9 percent of Mexico's cargo, also importing containers of manufactured goods.

Businessman Ruben Alamo expected port operations would resume by the weekend.

"The storm will affect imports and exports, but only minimally," said Alamo, who owns a construction company and represents a regional construction business association.

Bud was about 80 miles (130 km) from Manzanillo on Friday afternoon. The storm is expected to turn gradually away from the coast on Sunday, the hurricane center said.

Rainfall from Bud could soak the states of Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco and southern Nayarit with 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm) forecast.

In some places, the storm could dump as much as 15 inches (38 cm) of rain, threatening life-threatening flash floods and mudslides, the center said.

Most of Mexico's oil platforms and exporting ports are in the Gulf of Mexico and affected by storms in the Atlantic, where forecasters are expecting a "near-normal" hurricane season this year with up to 15 tropical storms and four to eight hurricanes. Videos Showcase Tebowing and Salsa Dancing Celebrations in Madden NFL 13

Bro, you?re trying to sell a date to dudes who feel like they?ve been burned time and time again by this game. To them, this is a series that?s been plagued by ineptitude year in and year out, so to try to tell them that it?ll be all good and that EA will pull a complete 180 in a little over a week is a battle you CAN?T win.

Personally, I fail to understand how EA Sports could go through, what, 2 creative directors without realizing they needed more than 2 passing trajectories and proper route timing/receiver awareness and TONS of catch possibilities. Those are CORE parts of football. Even Cummings himself stated that we as consumers wouldn?t be satisfied with just fixes to legacy issues, that we need to get more for our money (GIMMICKS, basically). So for me, it?s a wait and see as well, even though Mike Young generally has to clean the mess that Cummings and Ortiz made (and it looks like he wants to head in the proper direction).

Anyway, all I?m saying is this: It?s like you?re dealing with guys here who?ve been cheated on 5-8 times by their girl, and you?re the girls? bestfriend telling them she?s finally changed and grown up. You expect them to believe and trust you?

Are laser-firing drones the weed killers of the future?

3 hrs.

Swarms of robotic drones outfitted with solid-state lasers may be tomorrow?s environmentally-friendly weed killers, according to a team of German researchers.

While this this may sound at odds with the idyll of an organic farmer toiling away in the fields, the research team says the lasers eliminate the need for toxic herbicides and labor-intensive weed control.

The drones would seek out and destroy weeds by frying their growth centers with a finely-tuned laser beam, according to scientists working on the project at Leibniz University and Laser Zentrum Hanover.

Sensors and sophisticated algorithms on board the drones would allow the robots to distinguish between weed and crop and determine the right strength of the beam required to kill the weed.

To date, the team has demonstrated the technology in the lab and greenhouse where the laser is mounted on a track over the weeds.

The next step is to deploy the technology in the field. This is tricky since the vibrations of tractor-mounted system would interfere with accuracy, leading to fried crops as well as weeds.

Hence, the idea of mounting the lasers on drones, which the team apparently thinks might be steadier.

Skin Cancer - Types-Causes-Symptoms and Treatment - TypePad

In recent years, the incidence of skin cancer worldwide has increased and the situation now affects millions of people around the world. The most common cause is prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. The risk is higher if someone lives or take vacations in areas of intense sun. The recent decline of the ozone layer is believed to have played a role in the increased incidence, as the ozone layer acts as a shield against ultraviolet light. In addition, tanning booths, which use ultraviolet light can cause this type of cancer. People with fair skin are especially susceptible because they have low levels of melanin, the pigment that gives color to skin and helps protect it from ultraviolet rays.

The four basic types are:

. Melanoma, a pigmented skin tumor that is very serious and can be life threatening.

. Basal cell carcinoma, the most common skin tumor that is locally invasive and destructive (which destroys the tissue in the area), but it usually does not spread or cause death.

. Squamous cell carcinoma, which is three times rarer than basal cell carcinoma, but behaves in a similar manner.

. Bowen's disease, a cousin of squamous cell carcinoma, but more superficial, involving only the outermost layer of skin.

The typical basal cell carcinoma is a round or oval elevation, like pearls hit with a little red because of the fine blood vessels that go red through or within it. Sometimes several small bumps in a circle. They bleed easily and sometimes ulcerate. Squamous cell carcinoma is less defined, has irregular borders, poorly displayed and can be a flaky, crusty lifting red with a rough surface. Bowen disease is usually red or pink plate-like elevation with clear boundaries. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma tend to occur in sun-exposed sites of the skin.

Causes: The cause of cancer is unknown. It is believed, however, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma are associated with an accumulation of sunlight throughout life. People with light complexion with these tumors more often than people with dark skin. Malignant melanoma is thought to be associated with many severe sunburns during childhood, adolescence or early adulthood. It also occurs more commonly in lightly pigmented people, especially those with blue or green eyes, freckles and skin almost white. A tendency to develop melanoma seems to run in families.

Symptoms:

. The skin lesions with persistent ulceration or bleeding

. Persistent skin lesion that changes size, shape or color (skin changes).

Diagnosis: Biopsy should be done at any suspicious skin lesion. In evaluating pigmented skin lesions, the doctor usually looks good and bad signs. Bad signs include

. Irregular pigmentation or coloration of the lesion

. Jagged edges

. Asymmetry

. Marked elevation of

. Large (larger than a pencil eraser)

Treatment:

Medical treatment required surgical treatment.

Surgical treatment: All the types described above can be treated by excision and removal of the tumor. Surgical removal results in a rate of 90 percent better than the cure for non-pigmented tumors (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and Bowen's disease). Alternative methods to destroy cancer include the use of liquid nitrogen freezing (cryosurgery) or scraping with a curette and burning the tissue with electric cautery (electro desiccation and curettage).

Treatment of melanoma depends on tumor thickness and depth of invasion, when examined under a microscope. When the tumor is thin and superficial consideration of the removal of lymph nodes draining the area of ??skin and chemotherapy.

Prevention: Prolonged exposure to sunlight increases the risk of this cancer, so limit sun exposure is the best prevention, especially for people with fair skin. Most occur in the head, neck and hands, so clothing (wide-brimmed hats, long sleeves) and use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 provides adequate protection.

NBA playoffs: 76ers beat Celtics, force Game 7

The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Boston Celtics, 82-75, Wednesday night at?Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Arena, setting the stage for?a seventh and series-deciding game in Boston on Saturday.

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers has referred to games like Wednesday night?s grinder against the Philadelphia 76ers as being ?played in mud.? It was certainly ugly all around, but the 76ers came away with the victory, 82-75, in Philadelphia, forcing a seventh game at Boston Garden on Saturday night. Allen Iverson, the former 76ers star guard who appeared to thunderous applause before the game, might have said that the best way to win a playoff series at Wells Fargo Arena is ?practice, practice, practice.? The Celtics should have taken some of that advice to heart, because for most of Game 6, they looked completely flummoxed.

It wasn?t all bad news for the Celtics, who got 24 points from Paul Pierce, including 13 for 13 from the free throw line. And Kevin Garnett almost single-handedly kept Boston close throughout the fourth quarter by contributing 20 more. But no one else on the Celtics reached the?ten-point plateau, with both Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen tossing in nine apiece.

One of the most telling statistics for Boston was how it got schooled in the paint. ?Philadelphia handily outscored them on the inside, 42-16. One reason for that, 76ers head coach Doug Collins suggested afterward, was that he wanted to keep his team in ?attack mode? and not try to get into a shooting contest with the Celtics. And the mediocrity of this statistic is compounded when considering Boston outrebounded Philadelphia, 48-37 (including 14 offensive boards), but just couldn?t convert on second-chance points.

Rajon Rondo couldn?t set up the offense, which accounts for his unusually low six assists. And Boston didn?t help its offensive cause by turning the ball over 17 times. ?

The 76ers, though they only hit one of nine shots from three-point range, nonetheless distributed the ball well, getting five players in double-figures. The Celtics put no pressure on them in that department either, hitting only 3 of 14 from beyond the arc. At one point, second-shift guard Keyon Dooling, ordinarily a serviceable three-point shot-maker, tossed up a rainbow which found nothing but air and fell harmlessly into the floor seats behind the basket ? it perfectly summed up the Celtics? offensive trials. Boston supplemented that with a series-low 33.3% from the field ? including Rondo?s hitting only 4 of 14 field goals. This field-goal drought also spread to the bench, with the Celtics relief squad managing only five points ? all scored by Mickael Pietrus ? in just over a collective hour on the floor.

If Boston wasn?t exactly piling up the points last night, they made up for it with their personal fouls ? getting whistled 25 times to Philadelphia?s 16. This hurt particularly in the last quarter, with Ray Allen fouling out in the crucial final minutes, and 76ers guard Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala hitting some key free-throws as the clock waned. In fact, Holiday (who led the 76ers with 20 points) and teammate Lou Williams were seemingly making shots from everywhere Wednesday night ? particularly inside ? and that, as much as anything else, was a big source of frustration for Boston?s big men. ?

The scene now shifts to Boston, where the pressure of getting to the next round will be sitting squarely on the Celtics? shoulders. One important factor when considering the grueling nature of the playoff game schedule is that Boston will have two days rest ? which favors a skilled, yet relatively elderly and hobbled Celtics team. For them, Game 7 will have to be a statement game, with Pierce needing to get involved early and often, and Rondo piling up the assists. But eighth-seeded Philadelphia, the relatively young and inexperienced squad they are, have been remarkably poised and shown that they are capable of winning close games on the road. Regardless, Saturday will undoubtedly be another tight and hard-fought game.

best front load washer - What should I consider when buying a front ...

You can find the best front load washer for your needs by asking yourself a few questions about your lifestyle and needs. For example, for large families, it makes sense to invest in a large washer with a stainless steel tub. People, who have apartments with limited space and those who wash often, probably will be fine with a washer made of high quality plastic.

Types of washing machines: There are two styles of machines: top loading and front loading. A top-load washer is usually cheaper, but also less energy efficient, so you may end up costing more in the long term. Compact and easily stored, this type of washing machine has a limited load capacity of less than 5 kg.

Advantages of a front load washer

A front load washer is energy efficient, but more expensive at the time of purchase. So, initial investment is higher in case of a front-loading washer compared to top loader. Also, a front-load washing machine requires the use of a detergent, which is considerably more expensive than normal detergents. A front loader has the advantage that it can accommodate a dryer at the top and hence it can save space. This type of washing machine can also handle a larger load.

Another consideration when choosing a washing machine is programming. New washing machines come with a number of established programs, such as automatic wash, delicate, short wash cycle, and anti-wrinkle. Things like estimating water temperature required, the washing time, and the force of spinning required are calculated by the machine itself, so these machines are very user friendly and don't demand much work and knowledge from the user.

When buying a washing machine, it is worth considering a dual machine, which combines the functions of washing and drying. The main disadvantage of this type of machine is the fact that the drying function is generally not as strong and effective as a separate dryer. However, a dual machine is a great space saver and usually cheaper than buying a washer and dryer separately. Another factor to consider is noise. Top loaders make a considerable amount of noise, and it can get very uncomfortable while washing. Front loaders on the other hand, have a very silent operation. Look for the decibel levels while buying a machine. The lower the decibel levels, the better. Also look for energy star rating while choosing a washing machine. An energy star rated machine can save up to 30 percent in electricity costs. Other than this, front loaders use as much as 70 percent less water compared to top loaders.

A high quality machine costs between $ 500 and $ 1000, although cheaper models are available. Many manufacturers concentrate on quantity over quality. As a result, you can buy a washing machine for as low as $ 200, but it would probably only last a few years. Buying a refurbished machine is a good alternative for those looking for a trusted brand at an affordable price.
