Photo of the day: Glimpse of the 'City in the Clouds'

Submitted by Jesse Brisendine / UGC

Like so many Machu Picchu trekkers, Jesse Brisendine had hoped to capture some great images of the 15th century Inca city when he visited in March 2011.

Brisendine had come to Machu Picchu, in Peru, as part of a personal challenge to experience 1,000 interesting things in the span of a year. He told TODAY.com that the photo he submitted to It's a Snap was the last picture he took during his hike.

"My friends and I had just spent the last three days hiking the Inca Trail and had rainy weather the majority of that time," he said. "The rain broke for the day we were in Machu Picchu, but left the clouds so you truly got the 'City in the Clouds' effect. "

Brisendine described the photo as belonging to the "I just don't want to leave this magical place, I just need to take one more picture" category.

You can learn more about Machu Picchu from the UNESCO World Heritage website and you can read more about Brisendine's personal challenge, which includes travel to amazing places, on his website.
