Sex issues in my relationship getting us both down :(

So me and my boyfriend have been together for a year and have happy relationship. We rarely argue but over the last few months (after a few drinks) we have had a few arguments that seem to all stem back to one thing: our sex life.

When we first started dating we were having sex 2/3 times a week (we only see each other at weekends) and were having lots of fun but in January my boyfriend injured himself and as a result we couldn't have sex for about 6 weeks. Since then, his injury has come back twice and has meant that the amount of sex we're having has declined to once a week or sometimes once a fortnight and alot of the time I think this is down to the fact that he is worried about hurting himself again (which is completely understandable and he really has had bad luck with it ).

However, I am finding it difficult having less sex than before and I find myself irrationally worrying about the reasons why we aren't having sex. For example, we went for a month without sex in July and I got really upset thinking it was me, he wasn't finding me attractive etc. and it was during a drunken argument that he told me that his injury had come back and that was why. Now obviously, that's completely fair enough but because he hadn't told me I had no idea what was wrong!

This weekend we had a small argument because (whilst out tipsy) I whispered in his ear that I was looking forward to going home and having sex with him and he turned round and just went 'not tonight. I feel tired and urgh'. Naturally the drink exacerbated how I felt but I felt really rejected. When we got home I tried to talk to him about it and he told me that sometimes I make him feel inadequate.

I feel so awful that I could make him feel like that. How can I explain to him, without making him feel even more inadequate, that I miss having sex with him and that I wish he could communicate with me more openly if he's worried about it because of what's happened in the past or the way he seems to be perceiving my actions? I feel like a complete sex pest! I just really miss the intimacy and find it really difficult to cope with not knowing the reasons why we're having less sex.

I'm not really sure on this one.

But there are probably a lot of chaps reading this thinking "You are an ideal girlfriend" or "What on earth is wrong with him".

I'd say that guys find their manhood VERY precious. The fact that he's unable to have sex is probably making him feel like "less of a man".

From what I can tell there is no reason why your sex life has to diminish completely. My advice would be to plan a night together. Reassure him that you're not expecting sex and both of you agree to try not to have any expectations. Agree not argue. And then start slowly and enjoy yourselves. Try something new (if you haven't already done it) like massaging? Focus more on the foreplay. Explore each other's bodies. Spend more time kissing. Relax. Take your time. Try different things. Be more intimate but without having sex (if that makes sense).

I think this would help you both feel connected again and if he sees you're not expecting anything from him, and you don't view him as less of a man, then I could see it helping him . Also, try and support him through his injury, and be patient. I'm sure you'll both be better of because of it. Hopefully, once he sees that you're trying and that you're not pressuring him - hopefully he will begin to open up to you. If guys think that they're going to be "attacked", they clam up. PLEASE don't think I'm saying that you do that, but this is from my own observations.

    Good luck x

Difficult to give advice without knowing what the 'injury' is. Is it directly sex related and caused by sex? He needs to talk to a doctor about him - if he is worrying for no reason, then your relationship is the problem, not the injury.
A sex drive is like a hunger for food. It is satisfied, but will reappear soon enough. A man only goes so and so long before he wants to have sex again. If he isn't having sex with you - or someone else - he is most likely masturbating to porn. Porn addictions are quite common. Well bottom line is, his urges aren't gone. Sex drive can only permanently go down if you abstain from sex AND masturbation for 30 days straight, and that is something which is done with strong determination, not 'accidentally'.

You are right that something in wrong and the lack of sex is a clear symptom of that. But I don't know if the injury is legitimate, if he has gone to several doctors about it or what.

Ah, if it's that kind of injury, of course he is going to be worried. It must cause him a lot of pain and discomfort and it could well be that every time he has sex now, he's going to be scared that it happens again, and that it will heal in a way that causes even more discomfort next time, which I could imagine would be a major turn-off. In other words, part of his mind isn't on you and the pleasure between you, but on potential pain and injury.

He'll also know that you want sex more often than you're having now, and this could be affecting his self-confidence - he no doubt wants to please you, but there's that obstacle standing in his way. So he'll feel pressured, and the pressure will affect his sex-drive, too, and so it goes around and around. He probably feels ashamed about it, and that's why the communication from his end is lacking.

All in all, this issue is, for a big part, psychological, I think. It might be a good idea for him to see his doctor, about both the mental and the physical aspects of it. In the meanwhile, as difficult as it is for you, I'd try not to worry that he no longer feels turned on by you, and I'd try to be patient.

I do think it's worth having a calm chat about it, with no pressure, and no blame, and no accusations - to let him know that you understand, but need for him to be open with you. And you can suggest that there are other things you can do... you won't need that part of him for everything!

Besides, when you are doing other things, he may get carried away enough to stop worrying about injury. Just take your time together, and hopefully all will be okay.

Oh, and use lots of lube, that should help with the discomfort and should make tearing less likely.

It's completely unfair to make such sexist assumptions - reasons for reduced sex drive (in men and women) can include depression, stress at work, fatigue or hormonal changes, and your post doesn't mention any of these things, blaming either him or the relationship.

Telecom Marketers See Need to Build Better Customer Relationships

cmocouncil-telecom-marketers-top-customer-engagement-priorities-august2012.pngTelecommunications marketers are seeing a need to forge stronger relationships with their customers, per results [download page] from a CMO Council survey sponsored by Ricoh. Asked their top 3 customer engagement priorities for the year ahead, 47% said they would focus on retaining relationships and building stronger affinity with existing customers, while 40% plan to improve the relevance and value of communication and content. The primary ways in which these marketers say they are currently adding value to customer communications and engagements are by proactively addressing issues, complaints, or concerns (52% citing this among their top 3) and cross-selling or upselling services to increase customer lifetime value (48%).

Marketers Lack Recognition of Customers? Billing Frustrations

Slightly less than one-third of the marketers said they were looking to add value to their communications by offering clear and easy-to-understand charges and billing communications. These marketers, while in the minority, look be on the right track. According to separate results of the study, the leading complaints mobile subscribers have with their carriers are hidden fees or unexplained costs (21%). Yet, when marketers were asked to select their customers? top 3 sources of pain, unexpected charges came in 4th on the list, at just 20% of respondents. This suggests that marketers are not fully recognizing customer frustrations on this issue.

Still, marketers are fully aware of customer complaints with service around queries or problems, with 31% selecting this as one of their top 3 pain points, topping the list. This is particularly important, given that 36% of mobile subscribers in the study claim to respond to a negative customer experience by switching carriers.

Data Analytics Said Key to Customer Retention, Profitability

Details from The CMO Council?s ?What?s Critical in the Verticals | Telecommunications? indicate that data analytics are becoming a priority for marketers as they seek to gain better insights into their customers. 58% of respondents described the state of their business as adapting to new channels and methods of customer engagement and insight gathering, while 32% said that embracing data analytics to better segment and target key customer constituencies was one of their top 3 factors impacting and influencing their marketing operations. (This factor was second only to tightened marketing budgets, at 57% of respondents.)

While 23% of the marketers surveyed said they are fully confident in their knowledge of customer retention, profitability, and lifetime value, another 65% said they were getting better all the time. The leading way that respondents believe they could improve their visibility in this area is through better access to real-time customer data and analytics, with 59% choosing this among their top 3 factors for improvement.

Other Findings:

  • 64% of telecom marketers have invested in customer data aggregation, analytics, or segmentation platforms or programs in the past 12 months. The most common outcome of the program was segmentation of customers in order to better execute targeted communications (41%).
  • When asked to select their top 3 issues or developments impacting the mobile communications industry today, 47% chose customer expectation for technology innovations and advancements, ahead of customer demand for low/no-fee service with high-touch personalized service (35%). Advertising plays a key role, too: 31% said increased competition has required increased marketing and advertising spend, and 22% pointed to being out-advertised by bigger carriers with bigger advertising budgets. Indeed, according to the mobile subscribers surveyed, among those who had thought about switching carriers in the previous year, the most common reason for doing so was having seen a lot of ads about other companies.

About the Data: The CMO Council data is based on a survey of more than 1,660 global consumers and 147 senior marketers.

Civil, on-topic comments and feedback from marketing professionals are very welcome. Everything else, including self-promotion, is heavily moderated.

NBA 2013 Free Agent Rankings: Tony Allen No. 18

Photo

The great Tom Ziller over at SB Nation main put together his list of the Top 50 free agents for the 2013 season. No surprise as who the top two players are, with Chris Paul and Dwight Howard leading the way, but a little further down it starts to get interesting.

In fact, our very own Tony Allen makes the list at No. 18, which seems reasonable. I mean, if you were to make a list of the top free agents based on their current salary, Tony would be among the Top 5. But, yes, he's due for a pretty major increase in his annual rate, seeing as he's only locked up at $3.3 million this season.

Here's what Ziller wrote about Allen:

Allen, one of the NBA's most ... interesting characters and best wing defenders, will be up for grabs in 2013, barring an extension. Last season was actually the first time in his career that he averaged more than 25 minutes a game. He's been a credible enough scorer to get those minutes, thanks to the rest of Memphis' offensive prowess. (Word up to Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph.) But for whatever reason Lionel Hollins didn't keep him in late in playoff games. Allen, who has made two straight All-Defense teams, will be 31 when he becomes a free agent, and is making only $3.3 million this season. Expect him to get a nice raise.

Word up to Gay and Randolph, indeed.

I do agree with his assessment of Allen, but I would argue that he's probably more valuable than a few guys (or guy) ahead of him on this list: namely, Marvin Williams. I mean, guys like Williams are a dime a dozen, right? Unselfish, lock-down wing defenders like Allen are pretty rare in this league. Show the man some respect, Ziller!

But, to nitpick and say that Allen should be the 17th most valuable free agent in 2013 is pretty ridiculous. We know that he's going to be heavily sought after this summer, so it's probably in the team's best interest not to let it drag out and get him signed before the start of the season.

Also, left out of this discussion is what Allen means to the fans and the franchise as a person and personality. If the Grizzlies lost Allen to free agency, wow, look out! Memphis-folk might not care if the team moves or not. "You let Allen walk!? Whatever, move the team the Anaheim, see if I care!"

News: Exercise Doesn't Always Lead to Weight Loss | Greatist

That second cupcake is A-OK if we hit the gym later? right? Well, not so fast. New research suggests exercise might not be?the key to weight loss[].?According to the researchers, with the exception of elite athletes (like Olympians), humans burn pretty much the same amount of energy every day no matter what kind of exercise they do. If we can?t affect the output, then input is even more important. The study authors say it?s more important to focus on how much energy ? aka how many calories, aka how many cupcakes ? we put into our bodies.

Sedentary Lifestyle

The Study

Herman Pontzer and a team of Hunter College anthropologists compared daily energy expenditures in the Hadza (a modern hunter-gatherer tribe in Africa) and Western populations, who had much more sedentary lifestyles[].?As researchers expected, the Hadza were more active than their laptop-loving Western counterparts. But here?s the kicker: When researchers measured how much energy each group spent on a daily basis, it turned out the Hadza tribe burned roughly the same amount as their Western counterparts.

Sound strange? Apparently humans burn roughly the same amount of energy every day no matter what kind of physical exercise we do. Instead, the researchers think the Hadza people?s bodies were able to spend extra energy on physical activity by conserving energy elsewhere, like on biological processes that take place inside cells. Based on these results, researchers say people who want to lose weight should focus more on how many calories they consume and less on how many they burn. And, despite what many health organizations claim, modern sedentary lifestyles might not be the sole cause of the obesity epidemic.

Can We Trust It?

It?s hard to compare the Hadza tribe to modern-day Westerners because their physical activity and diet are so different from the kind we do at the local gym. But that difference may not matter. Pontzer says he has reason to believe humans have been spending roughly the same amount of calories per day today for 100,000 years.

These findings aren?t totally isolated, with other research suggesting exercise interventions generally don?t help people lose weight[].

But it?s too soon to start mass-cancelling our gym memberships. ?Obesity is only one aspect of health,? Pontzer said, adding that exercise can also improve mental health and immune system function. And the concept of a set metabolic rate doesn?t necessarily apply to high-functioning athletes like Michael Phelps, who can burn as many as 8,000 calories a day.

Greatist Expert and cardiologist John Mandrola says neither exercise nor diet holds the solution to obesity: ?Truly good health, or wellness, comes only when humans use their body and then feed it smartly each day.?

Has exercise been a weight-loss let down or do you swear by the gym? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

News and Society -Crime News Blog: Short History of the Kray Twins

ByPaula A Jones

If you were born before the 1940's you will have heard of the notorious Kray Twins. In the 1950's and 60's they were perpetrators of organised crime in the East End of London. Reggie and Ronnie were responsible for a number of crimes including arson, armed robbery and even murder. By the 1960's they became local celebrities of the time and socialized with film stars, lords and even MPs of the time.

The twins mother Violet gave birth on the 24th October 1933 in Hoxten in East London, Reggie being older by about 10 minutes. Their father Charlie was a scrap gold dealer who went on to become a travelling salesman. The twins went to Wood Close School and then on to Daniel Street School. As children they were bullies and always intimidating people.

From an early age their grandfather Jimmy Lee was a strong influence on their life which led them to get into boxing. Around the time this was a popular activity for working class boys. From a young age the twins had sibling rivalry which helped them achieve success in the boxing world.

As they grew into adults they were known for the trouble they caused and people would always keep away from them. Their reputation spread fast which attracted other criminals into their gang. They avoided being sent to prison a number of times in the 1950's but eventually their evil life would catch up with them.

They were called up to do national service which was a mandatory government service during the Second World War, but deserted several times. Around that time prisoners were often held at the Tower of London and the twins were one of the last prisoner every to be kept there.

They were aware of crime from an early age as their father Charlie was a military deserter. By the time the twins were 21 they founded the Kray Gang. They formed a so called protection business and bought a share in a West End club.

Ronnie was sent to prison for aggravated assault but was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and moved to a mental hospital. Reggie helped him escape by swapping clothes with him. He was recaptured and sent back to prison declared as sane. During this time Reggie opened a nightclub and ran it with his older brother. Once Ronnie was out he joined the brothers in the running of the club and their life of drug dealing, loan sharking and dealing with stolen property.

The wealthy would attend parties' held by the Krays and they would often get photographed with famous film stars and musicians. Ronnie was an open gay man which at the time was quite shocking.

As their lives became increasingly violent the police were homing in on them. It was in 1966 that Ronnie murdered George Cornell who was a hit man from a rival gang. Then Reggie murdered an associate for stealing drugs profit. A couple of years later the twins were both charged and convicted of murder and sent to prison. They continued their so called 'protection business' behind bars.

Ronnie lived out the last days of his life at Broadmore Hospital as he was again certified insane. He died on the 17th March in 1995 aged 61 after a heart attack. Reggie became a born again Christian and was freed from prison aged 67 on compassionate grounds due to terminal cancer of the bladder. It was the year 2000 and Reggie died on the 1st October.

If you want to learn more inside information about the Kray Twins why not book a Krays Tour which is run by the actor Stephen Marcus, best known for his role as Nick the Greek in gangster film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

(AP) ? This southwestern Kentucky town has hit the astronomical jackpot.

When a total eclipse of the sun darkens skies on Aug. 21, 2017, the show will last longer in a stretch of bucolic hill country near Hopkinsville than any place on the planet. It will last two minutes and 40 seconds, not much longer than the Kentucky Derby.

But already this town of 32,000 near the Tennessee border is making preparations to cash in on the fortuitous celestial alignment. And like the Derby, run three hours away in Louisville, the eclipse itself will be a blip in time compared to the buildup.

"We will be the Mecca of the solar eclipse because we are the dead center," said Cheryl Cook, executive director of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A few miles northwest of town, the countryside of crops, modest farmhouses and quaint churches is expected to draw bands of scientists and eclipse chasers. They'll be armed with telescopes and cameras to capture the first total solar eclipse visible from the U.S. mainland since 1979.

"If people want to make the absolute most of it, and get every single last millisecond of looking, that's where you want to be," said Dean Regas, an astronomer at the Cincinnati Observatory.

Already, local motels are hearing from people wanting to witness the spectacle.

At the Hampton Inn & Suites, eclipse chasing groups from Germany and Japan have reserved more than two-dozen rooms, said Jeff Smith, the inn's general manager.

Smith said it's a sign of the frenzy to come.

"It will be the largest event that this community has ever seen," he said.

Local officials started a Facebook page promoting the event. And they coined a slogan, promoting the eclipse as "the most exciting two minutes and 40 seconds in astronomy" ? playing off the Derby's claim as the most exiting two minutes in sports.

Mike Mathis, co-owner of the Wood Shed Bar-B-Q & Restaurant, hopes to serve up slabs of barbecue ribs and piles of pork and mutton to hordes of visitors. The eatery is a few miles from the best eclipse-viewing spot.

Mathis vowed he won't jack up his food prices when the big event arrives, and urged fellow merchants to resist the temptation.

"Don't try to gouge the folks so we can draw 'em in," he said.

Vince Dixon, who runs an ATV repair shop nearby, describes the area as a "secluded little bubble," but predicted area residents will be welcoming. It's given him even more incentive to create a campground out of an empty field on his property.

"In my opinion, with the way the economy is, you better welcome them," he said. "You take what you can get now."

A solar eclipse happens when the moon lines up between the sun and the Earth, casting a lunar shadow on the Earth's surface and obscuring the solar disk. During a partial solar eclipse, only part of the sun is blotted out.

Total solar eclipses draw anywhere from hundreds to thousands of scientists, tourists and curious observers to areas with good views. There will be a handful of such spectacles around the world before August 2017, but none with good vantage points in the U.S. mainland.

"I've only seen one total eclipse in my life, and it is the most incredible experience you'll ever see," Regas said. "On the top 10 list of astronomical events, this is No. 1 and No. 2 is way down the list. It's not even close.

"The way the sky just turns this purplish color, the temperature drops very quickly, the stars pop out in the middle of the daytime. It's eerie. You get an idea of how scary it might have been for the ancients when this came out of the blue."

The proximity of the prime viewing spot to Hopkinsville was reported earlier by the Kentucky New Era newspaper.

The path of the total eclipse will cut a narrow swath across the country. It will start in Oregon and take a path through parts of Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, slivers of Georgia and North Carolina and then into South Carolina, Regas said.

Along the path in Kentucky and Tennessee, the sky will darken in such places as Paducah, Ky., and Clarksville and Nashville in Tennessee, he said. In Nashville, the total eclipse will last one minute and 47 seconds, he said.

In most other parts of the country, a partial solar eclipse will be visible, he said.

Scientists urge people to wear protective glasses when viewing a solar eclipse.

Bill Kramer, who runs a website geared toward eclipse chasers, said the crowds could be "more akin to a county fair than a gathering of scientists and astronomers."

"A solar eclipse is a very public event and does not require a tremendous amount of technical support ? except to be at the right place at the right time," Kramer said in an email.

Hopkinsville officials are talking about setting aside viewing areas, Cook said. Parks and a football field are among the possibilities. Seminars featuring astronomers in the days beforehand are being discussed.

In one ironic twist, the solar eclipse will share the same Aug. 21 date as a popular piece of local folklore ? when a family claimed to see a space ship with aliens land near their home in 1955. The family's claims are kept alive in the Little Green Men festival near the eclipse-viewing spot.

"It kind of gave me the chills when I saw the date," Cook said.

Meanwhile, local county magistrate Mark Cansler, said he wants to be accommodating but hopes that designated viewing areas are created to keep visitors from trampling through yards and farms. He lives and farms in the area.

"I don't think people would want large groups setting up camp in their yards," he said. "If we have crops out there, we wouldn't want people running over them."

Tammy Hale, who lives near what will be the most prime viewing area, was asked if she would charge visitors to park on her property.

"Why?" she quickly replied. Her husband, Tim, added, "Depends on how bad we're hurting for money."

Regarding iPad 2,5 and iPad 2,6

Regarding iPad 2,5 and iPad 2,6

Apple has model numbers for all their products. The original iPhone was iPhone 1,1. The iPhone 3G was iPhone 1,2. The current iPhone 4S is iPhone 4,1. The next iPhone will be iPhone 5,1. Likewise, the original iPad was iPad 1,1. The iPad 2 was iPad 2,1. And the new iPad is iPad 3,1. The Retina MacBook Pro is MacBookPro 10,1. Following pre-production code names, that's how Apple classifies things internally.

Within models, there are variants. The iPhone 3G was a radio variant of the original iPhone 1,1 but was fairly similar otherwise, hence iPhone 1,2. The iPhone 3GS got a whole new chipset, so also got a new, model bump to 2,1. Likewise, the iPad 2 was a leap ahead of the original, so it got iPad 2,1. At least the Wi-Fi version did. The GSM/AT&T version got iPad 2,2 and the CDMA/Verizon version got iPad 2,3. When Apple updated the internals again this spring for the newer, lower cost version, that variant was iPad 2,4.

iPad 2,5 has been showing up in developer logs for months and iPad 2,6 was noted yesterday by Marco Arment on Marco.org. So what are they?

Marco thinks they may be the iPad mini. Since we've already seen that Apple doesn't consider something like a boost in radio technology from 2G/EDGE (iPhone 1,1 -- the original iPhone) to 3G/HSPA (iPhone 1,2 -- the iPhone 3G) to be worth a full model number increment, but they do consider the switch from an Apple A4 chipset (iPhone 3,1 -- the iPhone 4) to an Apple A5 chipset (iPhone 4,1 -- the iPhone 4S) to be increment worthy. Marco's thinking seems to be, given the iPad mini will likely use all the components of the iPad 2, only shrunken down -- something iMore reported on back in May -- that Apple might just keep using the iPad 2 model series as well.

iPad 2,5 would then be the iPad mini Wi-Fi, with 2,6 being AT&T/GSM, and theoretically we'd also see 2,7 for Verizon/CDMA, and perhaps other models for other regional radios.

So where does that leave 4G LTE networking? The iPad 2 doesn't currently include a 4G LTE radio the way the iPad 3 does. Would Apple stick to the same HSPA+ and CDMA radios in the existing iPad 2? Not necessarily.

We've already seen that Apple doesn't increment models a full number just for radio changes. So, if Apple is shrinking down the iPad 2 internals and re-packaging them into the relatively narrower iPad mini case, they could easily include LTE for both AT&T/GSM and Verizon in their respective models. And they could likely do so using the same newer, better Qualcomm 28nm MDM9615 chip that's expected to hit the iPhone 5 this September, and perhaps more products soon thereafter.

Alternatives for iPad 2,5 and iPad 2,6 could include yet more tweaks for the existing iPad 2. iMore did learn Apple was planning to push the new, miniature Dock connector out across their complete iOS product line, but we didn't learn anything to specifically indicate older products like the iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S would be getting them as well. A Dock connector alone might not be worth a new variant indicator anyway. (There's no precedent for that on iOS devices, so it's harder to predict.)

Would Apple really launch an entirely new product in the iPad mini as part of the year-old iPad 2 model line? Wouldn't an all new iPadmini 1,1, 1,2, 1,3, etc. be cleaner and less confusing? These are Apple internal designations that consumers can only find by clicking their way deep into product information inspectors. That means Apple will do whatever is cleaner and less confusing for them not for us.

And we'll find out what that is this fall...
